Mercedes-Benz needed SAP capacity for a major rollout — with one requirement that filters most vendors out before the technical questions begin: everyone fluent in German, working directly with German implementation teams, no translator, no English fallback. The engagement ran on two tracks: fifteen consultants delivered in body leasing — contracts, rotations and replacements held by NDS — and eight specialists recruited into the programme's team. Same bench, same screening, two models at once.

Two constraints multiplied against each other — either alone would slow a search; together they empty most vendors' pipelines. And the volume ran across both engagement models at once:
SAP consultants who work fluently in German and are ready for a large-scale programme are scarce on their home market — and scarcer outside it.
The body-leasing track carried the project's capacity — fifteen consultants, contracts on NDS. The recruitment track filled eight seats the client wanted in-house. Both drew on the same screened pool.
Daily work directly with German rollout teams. Fluency claimed on a CV wasn't enough — it had to survive a live conversation.
The search was run as one team build, not two dozen parallel searches — four decisions made that real, on both tracks:
NDS's standing network of SAP specialists with confirmed German — built across earlier Western-European engagements
technical depth and real fluency verified in live conversation — never assumed from the CV
each profile chosen for how it completes the team — a unit, not eight individual experts
schedules coordinated so the whole team joined together — gel-time designed out before day one
The leased team live and the recruited seats filled — in eight weeks, on a market where finding one such profile is considered a hard search. Why it held:
Years of staffing SAP competencies into Germany and Western Europe — the network and the market read were already in place when the brief landed.
Complementarity and one start date were selection criteria from the first longlist — not something fixed after signing.
Live German verification at the start of the process — communication risk eliminated before it could become a project problem.
